When Judd Slivka, a journalism professor at the Missouri School of Journalism, decided he was ready for a new personal website design, he had a number of requests. He wanted the site to highlight his writing, he wanted it to load super-fast, and he wanted “IKEA-like simplicity.” He also wanted a new logo that incorporated a specific piece of art with personal meaning into his brand.
We went with a clean, minimalist and fairly traditional blog-style design that would showcase his writing without any fussy design elements to distract readers or slow down page load. Then we created a bold logo based around Judd’s personal mark. The end result is clean, focused and optimized to load lightening-fast so he can enhance his posts with “slower” elements like embedded SoundCloud files, YouTube videos and SlideShare presentations, which can add significant load time to pages.
