WEBSITE DESIGN FAQ

ONE-PAGE WEBSITES

TEMPLATED WEBSITES

PRICING

Q

Is one page enough?

A

It honestly depends on your business and your goals. If your goals involve developing a large amount of content to explain your product or service, you may find that a templated site or custom site fits your needs better. But if you need to simply get the word out and let people know you exist, basic information, a few images, your address and contact info may be totally sufficient. Having a simple but attractive page can totally do the trick – and don’t forget that you can always add to your site down the road, when your budget permits. If you feel unsure about which approach best suits your needs, let us know – we’re happy to talk you through it!

Q

How did you determine the cost for this package?

A

Because we start with a templated design, we’re able to eliminate a lot of the uncertainty that comes up during the normal site design/build process. We also want to be as transparent as possible about how our pricing works. The breakdown for one-page sites is as follows: Hosting setup: Email setup: Theme/plugin installation: Content input: Photo cropping and optimization: Client approval/revisions: Desktop testing: Mobile testing: Speed optimization: SSL setup: DNS: Project management: Email/phone communications: 10% project contingency: 20% agency profit: 20% sales commission: TOTAL: In addition to the basic project cost, which we recoup in the first three months of your payment plan, the following monthly costs are part of your ongoing hosting and maintenance contract. Monthly costs: Hosting: Backup storage: WordPress, theme and plugin updates: Post-update testing: Backup confirmation: Insurance: Uptime monitoring Security monitoring Emergency site recovery Google search console

Q

Wait, I can break this up into monthly payments?

A

YES. We now offer monthly payment plans for sites that are hosted on our servers.

Q

So you handle hosting?

A

Yes. Our goal is to provide a package that is quick and easy for clients to get up and running.

Q

What if I want to handle the hosting stuff myself?

A

That’s totally cool. You’re in no way obligated to host with us, we just wanted to make this package as hassle-free as possible. In many cases, clients already have domains and hosting purchased and want to use that setup, and that’s understandable. HOW DO WE CHARGE DIFFERENTLY IN THIS INSTANCE? If you want to host the site yourself, that’s great – you will receive a $TBD discount on the package price for full payment up front.

Q

How will I be billed for my monthly payments?

A

You must set up an auto-payment plan with us through Stripe, our credit card processor. We will send you an invoice for the payment plan. Enter your payment info and you’re good to go! You will receive an invoice from us each month, via Freshbooks, for your own records.

Q

Can I pay with PayPal?

A

No, we do not work with PayPal because of their chargeback policy – they generally penalize business owners without investigating the situation, which means money is yanked out of our account before they even know if we’ve done anything wrong. It also tends to take quite a while for the resolution process. We find this to just be generally unworkable. If you need to use PayPal, we recommend that you get the PayPal Debit Card and use that with Stripe.

Q

What if I need to change my billing method during the course of my plan?

A

We strongly encourage you to set up a payment solution that will work in the long term. If you need to change your payment method, you will be billed $62.50 to cover 1/2 hour of our time for communications and implementing the change in Stripe.

Q

What happens if I miss a payment?

A

If you miss a payment, you will receive an email informing you of the missed payment, and you will have 48 hours to submit payment. After 48 hours, your site will be taken down pending payment. There will be an additional $250 fee for restoring your site. Sorry to be harsh about this, but we’ve had a lot of trouble getting paid on normal projects during the past year, and until we have a sense of how well this payment plan option works, we’re pretty much going with a zero-tolerance policy regarding missed payments.

Q

Is the $TBD cost guaranteed?

A

Yes, provided we stay on track during the build process. If you provide all content within the guidelines requested, there should be no problem hitting the timeline for your site build. When a project does go over budget, it’s generally predictable how that might happen. So we’ve set up some standard overage allowances, below, to help guide your expectations during the project process. We’ve also created some site build tutorials that can help guide you through the process. Please know that we are beyond happy to spend as much time with you during the project process as you want! We truly are. But one of the things that has come up for us repeatedly during the past three years is our sincere desire to work with local businesses who are on a tight budget – and the fact that it gets difficult to cover our own operating expenses when we try to do that by lowering our prices. End of day, we’re a small business just like you. So strictly controlling the project timeline is the best way for us to do something that works for everyone involved. As a result, this is a relatively bare-bones sort of package. (Want the Rolls Royce treatment? You might be interested in our custom site builds.) STANDARD OVERAGES Content tutoring, 1/2 hour: $75 We write the content for you: TBD We choose stock images for you: Additional image production: $75 per half hour of editing time Swapping out content after it’s been submitted: $125 More than one round of changes during the approval process: Email maintenance Password retrieval

Q

Can I request changes to the design?

A

Yes, with some caveats. The largest amount of work on a site build usually involves creating the various mobile layouts for your site and then testing those across all the devices your site may be seen on (tablets, different sized phones, etc.). By creating templates, we’ve already done all this work – we pop your content in, give it a quick look-over on standard devices, and your site is good to go. So, yes – you absolutely can request changes to your site’s template design. But any changes to the design will require that we redo not just the design but also the testing for all mobile platforms. So by making this request, you’ll add time to the project. Depending on the degree of change involved, it may take a little more time or a lot more time. The way we handle this is by charging hourly once the project goes beyond its original scope, at our standard rate of $125/hour. A: Yes and no. Q

What is the turnaround time for my one-page site?

A

Once we have all the content from you (both text and photos), we will give you a date for your site build. Typically, once you’re scheduled, your site should take one day to complete.

Q

It’s one page. Why isn’t it cheaper?

A

A lot of the costs involved in setting up a website – setting up hosting, theme installation,

Q

Will you provide email addresses?

A

We can provide forward-only email services for up to 10 email addresses as part of your package.

Q

Do you provide email support?

A

TK.

Q

Where should I purchase my domain name?

A

TK.

Q

Do I have to purchase a domain name?

A

No – if you don’t want to get your own domain, you’re more than welcome to use the URL we provide, which typically follows the format yourbusiness.undeniablestl.com. We do recommend you purchase a domain for branding purposes, but it’s entirely up to you.

Q

Are content updates included in the monthly maintenance price?

A

No. We would love to offer an unlimited content update package, but we have not yet rolled out that option. We do currently offer update retainers that provide a $25/hour discount for purchasing time in blocks of three hours. So rather than our normal rate of $125/hour, you can purchase three hours of our time for $300. These hours can be used for any normal maintenance tasks: content updates, plugin or theme updates, security, backups, analytics, design changes, you name it. You can also use your retainer time for regular check-ins via phone or video chat, if you like. Your hours never expire, and retainer clients are given priority scheduling whenever possible.

Q

Can you build my site using someone else’s templated design or child theme?

A

Yes – we can and have done that. But because we have some experience with this, we know that not all templates or child themes are created equal. The design you choose may be older and not current with the most recent version of Divi or Elementor. There may be mistakes in the CSS. It may not have been adequately tested for mobile. We’ve seen instances of all these things in the past. As a result, it’s impossible to estimate how much time will go into the site build. So sites built on other people’s layouts are scoped as custom design projects.

Q

Do you work with themes other than Divi or Elementor?

A

No. We are extremely well acquainted with Divi and Elementor/OceanWP, and we know the quirks inherent to the technology as well as potential fail points during the ongoing site maintenance process. We also know and trust the founders of these two companies and know they aren’t going out of business any time soon. We’ve seen sites built on random themes from online marketplaces fall into disrepair very quickly because the theme was abandoned by the developer soon after purchase – and we don’t want to see you stuck in that position. We will likely, in the future, offer Genesis/Beaver Builder sites. But we have not yet started to seriously explore this option.
